The San Jose Sharks are back on the road and hopefully able to get back in the win column today. San Jose pays a visit to the Nashville Predators this afternoon. It’s the key matchup on this three game road trip with the biggest playoff implications. A win today would be a four point swing in the playoff race, since Nashville has caught up to the Sharks and even jumped into the second wildcard spot. If San Jose wants to stick in this playoff race, a win today is essential.
The Sharks get some key players back today. It looks like Igor Chernyshov is ready to play after taking a tough hit on the last road trip. Yaroslav Askarov won’t get the start today, but he might be on the bench in a backup role. Ty Dellandrea is on this road trip, though whether he’ll play or just be along for the vibes is yet to be seen.
The Predators have been on a roll since Dec. 8, when the team was 32nd in the NHL. Most recently, the team has won four in a row and just beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in overtime.
This is the first of three meetings between the two teams, which means it has huge playoff implications. They’ll meet again on April 4 in San Jose and April 13 in Nashville.
The Predators are led by Ryan O’Reilly, who has 64 points in 69 games. Steven Stamkos leads the team with 34 goals in 70 games.
In the net, Juuse Saros continues to carry a majority of the workload. The netminder is 25-19-7 this season with a .895 save percentage.
