The San Jose Sharks continue the east coast swing with a stop at Madison Square Garden tonight to face the New York Rangers. As expected, the Rangers are in the mix for the playoffs. The team is fourth in the Metropolitan Division but has a .679 points percentage, better than the division leading New Jersey Devils, which have played five more games than the Rangers at this point in the season.
This will be what some hockey pundits call a “money on the board” game. The Sharks will certainly be looking to beat the Rangers to get some sort of vengeance for Barclay Goodrow. You’ll remember that when the Rangers could not trade Goodrow, the team decided to place him on waivers to get him off the roster. That’s when San Jose picked him up, helping the Rangers out. Goodrow wasn’t upset about returning to San Jose, but rather the way the Rangers handled it all.
Safe to say Barclay Goodrow has had his return to MSG circled.

“I didn’t like how things were handled,” he said of his departure from the #NYR this past summer, when he rejected a trade, was waived and picked up by the Sharks.
Any extra motivation tomorrow? “Yeah. For sure.”
In honor of his return to MSG, Goodrow will skate on the top line with Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli tonight.
As for what to expect from the Rangers, Artemi Panarin leads the team with 22 points in 14 games. He’s far and away the hottest player on the team right now. Alexis Lafreniere and Adam Fox are second on the team in scoring and they have just 12 points each. Panarin also leads the team with 10 goals.
In net, Igor Shesterkin is 6-4-1 for the season with a 2.85 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Jonathan Quick’s record is 3-0-0 this season with a 1.17 goals against average and a .964 save percentage.
