The San Jose Sharks will have to be ready for anything today as the team pays its one and only regular-season visit to Buffalo. The Sabres are still riding high after a knock-down, drag-out fight with the Tampa Bay Lightning, which boosted the team to the top of the Atlantic Division. The two teams accumulated 102 penalty minutes on Sunday night, but the Sabres got the better of it, scoring four power play goals and winning 8-7 in regulation.
Things are only going to get better for the Sabres, which added at the trade deadline. The team added Logan Stanely, Luke Schenn and Tanner Pearson at the deadline and are just waiting for those work visas to come through. According to the Buffalo team site, the players still aren’t allowed to practice or play with the team. That means they likely will not be available for tonight’s game.
Still, there are players to watch out for. Tage Thompson is the top scorer for the Sabres with 70 points in 64 games. He also has the most goals with 34. Behind him is Alex Tuch with 27 goals. In the net, Alex Lyon is 17-8-3 with a .915 save percentage. He’s been sharing duties with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who has a 15-7-2 record and a .905 save percentage.
Then there’s the backend, where the Sabres have a top four that could cause the Sharks problems. The Sabres are 15th in the league in goals allowed per game and 5th in the league in the penalty kill, so the Sharks will have to be better than they have been in the past few games.

According to San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, there will be some changes in the lineup. Ryan Reaves will sit again with Philipp Kurashev back in and on the top six. There are no changes on the backend despite the fact that Nick Leddy was recalled from the San Jose Barracuda and Nolan Allen was sent back down. Look for Yaroslav Askarov to start in the net.
