The San Jose Sharks are in Dallas today, having earned points in four of the team’s last five games. San Jose is coming off a heady win on Monday night, where Macklin Celebrini scored in overtime to beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4.
Tonight’s game will be a test for the Sharks. The Dallas Stars are a much different beast than the Red Wings. The Stars have won three of the team’s last four games and have an 11-6-0 record, good enough for third in the Central Division.
Matt Duchene is Dallas’ top scorer with 21 points this season. He also leads the team with ten goals. The real problem for the Sharks will be the Stars’ goaltending.
Both Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith have solid starts to the season with Oettinger performing especially well. Oettinger is 9-3-0 this season with a 2.27 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. DeSmith has similar numbers with a 2.22 goals against average and .914 save percentage. The Sharks will need to put shots on net tonight if the team hopes to have a chance.
This is the second of three meetings between the two teams this season. The last time these two teams played was also in Dallas on Oct. 15. That’s when the Sharks pushed things to a shootout. While ultimately, San Jose lost 3-2, it was a good character game for the Sharks. The final game of the regular season series will take place on Feb. 8, 2025 in San Jose.
San Jose Sharks lines Nov. 20, 2024
This is the first night of back-to-back games for the Sharks. While Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky tends to like alternating his goaltenders, it sounds like Mackenzie Blackwood will start tonight in Dallas.
According to San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, both Vitek Vanecek and Yaroslav Askarov are on the trip with the Sharks. Unless Blackwood is absolutely on fire tonight, it’s hard to see Warsofsky going back to him tomorrow night. That means we could … maybe … possibly … see Askarov in net tomorrow night.
Given Monday’s win, we expect that things will stay the same as last game.
