The San Jose Sharks are still in the hunt for that first win of the season. It’s only game three, so it’s not time to panic yet. However, if the win is supposed to come tonight, it’s not going to be easy. The Sharks are in Dallas to take on the likely playoff-bound Stars.
Dallas has had an excellent 3-0-0 start to the season. What’s more, goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith each have a shutout to start the season. So far, the Stars have outscored opponents 9-3.
This will be a little different than the team we’ve seen in years past. For one thing, Joe Pavelski has retired, leaving the Stars without a depth center. Rookie Mavrik Bourque is expected to get just his third career game in the NHL. The Stars are also without Ty Dellandrea, who now plays in teal.
Dellandrea makes his first visit to Dallas since the summer trade. The young forward was drafted 13th overall by the Stars in 2018. While Dallas General Manager Jim Nill liked Dellandrea’s game, the advancement of younger players like Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston made it easier for Nill to trade Dellandrea.
We’ll see if Dellandrea ups his game tonight.
San Jose Sharks lines
The Sharks are still without Macklin Celebrini, so the lines are once again mixed up. To start the season, Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky still appears to be going with an every other game approach to the goaltending, which means it looks like Mackenzie Blackwood will get the start.
