Sharks prospects to watch in NCAA Tournament

Three San Jose Sharks prospects begin their quest for the NCAA Championship.

[Editor's Note: Welcome Maddie Bahr to Fear the Fin. She'll be giving us prospect and college hockey coverage. The NCAA Tournament begins on Friday.]

The road to the Frozen Four begins Friday. The Sharks have three prospects playing on University of North Dakota, Boston University, and Harvard University for the NCAA tournament. North Dakota enters the tournament as a number 1 seed, Boston University and Harvard both enter as 3 seeds. The three prospect are:

Gage Ausmus – D – University of North Dakota (6 -1)
5th round 2013 (151), Junior

Gage Ausmus was voted captain by his teammates for his Junior season. Ausmus is a defensive defenseman with a simplistic style and great skating. His point totals last year were 2-4-6 and he was plus 15, this year's he's piled up nine assists and is a plus 12. He leads North Dakota with 81 blocked shots this season.

University of North Dakota opens the tournament Friday against Northeastern University in Cincinnati.

Daniel O’Regan – C – Boston University (5-10)
5th round 2012 (138), Senior

O’Regan, listed at 5’10", is undersized but a skilled offensive player willing to go to the hard areas of the ice in order to make the play. Last year, he did get the advantage of playing on Jack Eichel’s wing scoring 23-27-50 and reaching the National Championship game. Currently, he's at 16-27-43. Boston University open’s the NCAA tournament Saturday against Denver University in St. Paul, MN.

Colin Blackwell – C – Harvard (5-9)
7th round 2011 (194), Senior

Colin Blackwell is listed at 5’9" and is an undersized center with a scoring touch. His stats last season were 6-13-19 which have significantly increased to 19-39-58 this season. Harvard open’s the NCAA tournament Friday against Boston College in Worcester, MA.
