A day after Adam Burish underwent surgery to repair a broken finger after blocking a Jeff Petry shot in Edmonton, the Sharks have recalled forward Freddie Hamilton from Worcester who last appeared in a game with the big club on January 7th. Hamilton has 19 goals and 37 points in 54 AHL games this season.
According to David Pollak of the Mercury News, there hasn’t been a timetable set for Burish’s return which is understandable given how gruesome the injury looked. Here’s a video in case you missed it but, fair warning, it isn’t for the squeamish:
If Burish is out for the remainder of the regular season, the Sharks could potentially be eligible to place him on long-term injured reserve (although the CBA is somewhat unclear on whether this is still an option with less than ten games remaining in the season) which in turn would allow them to activate Raffi Torres from LTIR, something they likely wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do prior to the start of the playoffs when the salary cap no longer applies.
In the meantime, Hamilton could draw into the lineup tonight against Winnipeg if Logan Couture, himself the victim of a shot-blocking injury in a game against Calgary, isn’t ready to return after missing Tuesday night’s contest against the Oilers. Hamilton would likely skate on a line with Andrew Desjardins and Mike Brown.
