Sharks sign Alex Schoenborn to an entry level contract

The Sharks have signed another forward to an entry level contract.

The Sharks announced the signing of their 2014 third round draft pick, Alex Schoenborn, this afternoon.

Schoenborn is twenty years old and currently playing his fourth season with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks. He has 27 goals and 53 points in 61 games this season, which is, well...not great.

"Alex plays the game with a physical edge that helps keep his opponents honest," said Wilson. "His combination of size and skill makes him a difficult player to play against and Portland Head Coach Jamie Kompon has helped him raise his all-around game. We look forward to him joining our organization."Schoenborn is second on the Winterhawks in both goals and penalty minutes (I imagine one of those is more likely to translate to professional hockey than the other). At 6'1 and 200 pounds, he is certainly large enough to play a physical style. The Minot, North Dakota native has played for Team USA in the past, as a member of the U-17 team in the 2011-2012 Five Nations Cup.

We may see him on the Barracuda this season, if Portland doesn't go far in the playoffs, and we will almost certainly see him there next season.
