Sharks sign Kevin Labanc to entry level deal

The Sharks announced the signing of forward Kevin Lebanc to an entry level contract this morning.

San Jose drafted 20 year old Labanc in the 6th round of the 2014 draft. He's currently playing his third season for the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts, where he has 119 points (38 goals and 81 assists) and leads the league in scoring. He was good last season as well, with 107 points in 68 games.

"Kevin has become one of the premier point producers in the OHL and has elevated his game to new heights this season," said Wilson. "His smart, crafty play with the puck has made him a dangerous offensive player, but with the help of Barrie's Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk, his game has improved physically and in the defensive end as well. We're excited to see his continued development with our organization."

Labanc is a bit small, at 5'11 and 179 pounds according to his HockeyDB page. His OHL scoring is excellent, but at age 20 it's also to be expected if an NHL career is viable. Labanc will likely head to the Barracuda when the Colts season ends, and he'll be worth keeping an eye on.
