One month and three days ago, the Sharks rode a four-game losing streak into a meeting with Anaheim Ducks. A game against their hated division rivals proved to be the antidote they needed as San Jose skated away 4-1 winners after a fight-filled matchup at Honda Center. Once again they enter a showdown with the Ducks winless in their last four, hoping a mumps-depleted Anaheim blueline and the motivation they generally seem to draw against this club will result in recent history repeating itself tonight at the Tank. Preferably without the third period descending into a total shitshow.

Last Meeting

24 hours after an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Sabres on home ice, the Sharks bounced back with arguably their best effort of the season to date, dominating the then-division leading Anaheim Ducks in a 4-1 victory. Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and the rest of the garbage pail kids responded the only way they know how: by throwing a temper tantrum. Getzlaf tried to fight a teenager, Tim Jackman went after Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Ben Lovejoy broke his hand on Joe Pavelski’s face as all hell broke loose at Honda Center.

Storylines

• Logan Couture did not participate in the morning skate and may not be available tonight per Todd McLellan. Apparently “he wasn’t feeling really good” so we can’t rule out Corey Perry’s contagion having struck again.
• Scott Hannan and Matt Irwin will draw back in on defense as rookies Mueller and Tennyson take a seat in the press box for a game.
• Mike Brown skated with the fourth line in the morning skate but the Sharks still don’t have a roster spot with which to activate him from injured reserve. Unless they place someone on IR, reassign someone or make a trade prior to the game Brown won’t be able to play tonight.
• John Scott, who was dealt a two-game suspension for his actions in the last game between these teams, will most likely be in the lineup either in favor of Couture if he can’t go or Tyler Kennedy if Couture is ready.
• No emergency backup needed for the Sharks as Alex Stalock is healthy enough to sit on the bench.
• Anaheim traded for Tampa defenseman Eric Brewer yesterday and they expect him to make his Ducks debut tonight. Frederik Andersen will play his second straight game in net after losing to Chicago in Orange County yesterday afternoon.
