Sharks vs. Jets Preview: Homestand continues against Jets
The Sharks and Jets are gonna rock it tonight.
The Sharks begin 2016 at home against the Jets, looking to match their December home win total on the second day of January. With Logan Couture in the lineup again, San Jose’s forward lines are as complete as they’ve been all season, and the power play has moved up to fifth in the league after scoring three goals against Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
That power play, along with a penalty kill that’s currently tenth in the NHL, is where the Sharks have an advantage tonight—the Jets’ power play and penalty kill rank 29th and 26th, respectively. These two teams have nearly identical numbers at even strength, but the Sharks ought to have their way if penalties play a big role in the contest.

Storylines
- That Couture guy looked pretty good in his return to the lineup, picking up two assists and setting up Brent Burns’ game-tying goal. It’ll be nice to see more of him in 2016.
- Burns wasn’t penalized for his hit on Chris VandeVelde in Wednesday’s game, and he won’t face any supplementary discipline, either. Good news for a team lacking defensive depth.
