Staubitz and Griess Recalled; Nabokov Day To Day

Per sjsharks.com:

San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned LW Jamie McGinn to the Worcester Sharks and recalled goaltender Thomas Greiss (GRYCE) and forward Brad Staubitz.

Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov is day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Nabokov tweaked what looked like his left hamstring/knee in the shootout win last night. As Patrik Berglund came down the ice on the Blues final attempt, Nabokov lunged to his left while the puck went wide. He did not get up after the shot, and exited the ice without putting any weight on his left leg.

The call up of Griess should not alarm Sharks fans however- a team must carry two healthy goaltenders at all times, making Griess’ inclusion onto the Sharks roster a necessity.

With Brian Boucher a perfect 2-0 (both games resulting in shutouts), the Sharks have an able netminder to fill Nabokov’s skates this weekend against the Stars and Coyotes respectively.

[UPDATE 4:55 PM]: King David of Working The Corners paints a clearer picture on the extent of Nabokov’s injury:

1. Surgery of any sorts was never under consideration.

2. Doctors checked him out last night and again this morning. Somewhere along the way there was significant improvement.

3. Nabokov did receive treatments at the practice, but left the building before I could either talk with him or at least see how badly he was hobbling around. Or not. One source said, however, that he was walking just fine.

Seems as if we’re looking at a 1-2 week period without Nabby.
