Thursday Chum Bucket: Demers could debut tonight

  • Jason Demers appears to have finally made a full recovery from the wrist injury he sustained at the Spengler Cup during the latter stages of the lockout. He’s ready to play, but it remains to be seen if his debut will come tonight against the Oilers. Dan Boyle was absent for practice yesterday so it’s possible the only change made to the lineup is Petrecki out, Demers in. [CSN Bay Area]
  • German billionaire Hasso Plattner now has a controlling stake in Sharks Sports & Entertainment after buying out Kevin Compton and Stratton Sclavos’ shares. Per Pollak, the team’s mission statement now includes the line “we also want to try to achieve a sustainable business.” Uh oh. [Mercury News]
  • On the other hand, Plattner seems to admit that you can’t make money on a hockey team. Would have been nice if he had informed 29 other owners of this fact about, oh, six months ago. [CSN Bay Area]
  • Plattner ranks 27th on Forbes’ billionaires list which should buy him influence among the league’s Board of Governors, argues Ray Ratto. [CSN Bay Area]
  • Plattner grew up watching Russian hockey in Germany and was a big fan of the “Ov” Line when he first arrived in San Jose back in 1993. [Working the Corners]
  • Speaking of former Sharks owners, the situation in Phoenix appears as bad as it’s ever been (where have we heard that before?) as Greg Jamison is out as a prospective owner after dragging his ass longer than a Shane Doan free agency decision. [Twitter]
  • Chicago’s shootout loss to Minnesota means only one team still has a chance to go 48-0 this season. [NHL.com]
  • The Avs need Ryan O’Reilly badly but there doesn’t seem to be any traction in contract talks between Colorado and their prized RFA center. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Taking a closer look at early Calder candidates Cory Conacher and Vladimir Tarasenko. [Backhand Shelf]
