Timo Meier Watch: Rouyn-Noranda Huskies up 2-1 in semis
Meier has three points in three games against Moncton.
Last time we checked in on Timo Meier, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies were headed to the semifinals against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Now the Huskies have a 2-1 series lead over the Moncton Wildcats after winning 5-1 on Tuesday night. Game four of the series is Wednesday evening.
After recording 13 points in a first round series sweep, Meier only chipped in one in the second round. He's not quite back on the scoring pace he was on in the first round, but Meier's two goals and one assist through three games is at least respectable.
Rouyn-Noranda is the heavy favorite to win the QMJHL championship, which means Meier could be in for a long second season. Both this series and the championship series, should the Huskies reach it, are of the seven-game variety — and that's before the Memorial Cup.
This is all good news for Meier, of course, who will at least have a shot at making the Sharks in next year's training camp. He's had a long year already, between World Juniors and a full season in the QMJHL. The Swiss forward currently sits eighth in points in QMJHL playoffs. He has taken the fifth most shots on goal.
You can follow along with tonight's game here. We'll check back in with Meier after the semifinals are completed.
