Top 25 Sharks Under 25 honorable mentions 2025 edition

Thank you to all of our Fear the Fin readers who took the time to vote in our Top 25 Sharks Under 25 poll. Nearly 100 of you took our survey, ranking all of the San Jose Sharks prospects under the age of 25. There are a lot of good names on the list. Some of them are new, like Michael Misa and Joshua Ravensbergen, and some of them are our “veteran” players, like William Eklund. When compiled together, the future for the Sharks looks really, really good.

But before we jump into the list, we, of course, need to take a look at some of the players who almost made the cut but just barely missed ranking. These are some of our honorable mentions.

Joey Muldowney

Position: Forward
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 160 pounds
Age: 21
Date of Birth: June 5, 2004
Draft Year: 2022 (172nd overall by San Jose Sharks)
Shoots: Right
2025-26 Team: University of Connecticut Huskies (NCAA)

Joey Muldowney was nowhere near our list in his first post-draft, nor his second. The young forward simply didn’t have the points to truly draw any attention to himself. In his freshman year with the University of Connecticut in 2023-24, Muldowney finished with just 14 points, but that changed last season, when his production exploded. Muldowney scored 47 points in 39 games, scoring 29 goals, the second most in the NCAA last season. Muldowney now enters his junior season as one of the leaders of the Huskies, a team that just finished its most successful season in program history, according to the team’s newspaper.

Jake Furlong

Position: Defenseman
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 189 pounds
Age: 21
Date of Birth: March 4, 2004
Draft Year: 2022 (140th overall by San Jose Sharks)
Shoots: Left
2025-26 Team: San Jose Barracuda (AHL)

Defenseman Jake Furlong just wrapped up his first season with the San Jose Barracuda and while he was not a leader in the points column, he was a leader in other aspects on the ice. He played 66 games for the Barracuda last season and continued to fill the role as a shutdown defenseman.

While he’s dropped down our prospect list this season — moving from 23 to honorable mention — that has more to do with the talent added on top than Furlong’s drop off in play. Furlong is still on track to be a potential impactful player for the Sharks and a possible leader on and off the ice. His award as the Barracuda’s Specialty Man of the Year for his contributions to the San Jose Community only highlights that.

Brandon Svoboda

Position: Forward
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 210 pounds
Age: 20
Date of Birth: Feb. 4, 2005
Draft Year: 2023 (71st overall by San Jose Sharks)
Shoots: Right
2025-26 Team: Boston University (NCAA)

After spending his first season post-draft playing in the USHL, Brandon Svoboda joined Boston University last season and played for the Terrriers. The freshman forward performed as expected from a 2023 third-round draft pick in that it wasn’t a knock your socks off season, but was respectable. Svoboda scored 9 points in 33 games his first year in the NCAA and did enough to catch the attention of the U.S. National Team. He won gold with Team USA at the World Junior Championship in January and had six points in seven games in the tournament. While Svoboda likely won’t ever work his way into a top six on an NHL roster, he’s best known as a hard-working, energy forward and could play a third or fourth line role at his peak.

Nate Misskey

Position: Defenseman
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 212 pounds
Age: 20
Date of Birth: Jan. 12, 2005
Draft Year: 2024 (143rd overall by San Jose Sharks)
Shoots: Right
2025-26 Team: UMass Lowell (NCAA)

In his first season post-draft, defenseman Nate Misskey returned to his Victoria Royals in the WHL, where he wore an “A” once again. Misskey had a better season compared to last, scoring 47 points in 63 games. While it was not a better points per game average than his 2023-24 season, it was a more consistent effort considering that Misskey played 19 more games this past season compared to the season prior.

The 20-year-old won’t be making the jump from juniors to the AHL like some of the other Sharks’ defensive prospects. Instead, Misskey will head to the NCAA, where he’ll play for UMass Lowell, which might be the best path for his defensive development.

Gabriel Carriere

Position: Goaltender
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 185 pounds
Age: 24
Date of Birth: Nov. 5, 2000
Draft Year: Undrafted
Catches: Left
2025-26 Team: San Jose Barracuda (AHL)

Goaltender Gabrielle Carriere just barely makes the cut on our 25 Under 25 list by way of his November birthday. The 24-year-old netminder is in his second season with the Sharks organization, and he surprised many by getting some work with the Barracuda last season when injuries and trades left the goaltending depth chart a bit lighter than the team would have liked. This season, the Sharks are hoping that Carriere will take another step forward in his development and possibly become the goaltender for the Barracuda. He comes off a season that saw him go 10-9-3 with an .894 save percentage and 3.06 goals against average. He’ll get some of the tougher assignments this season and share the net with Jakub Skarek.

Carriere likely isn’t the Sharks’ goaltender of the future; that’s why the Sharks have players like Yaroslav Askarov and Joshua Ravensbergen in the pipeline. However, he should help carry the Barracuda and keep the team competitive for the next few seasons.
