Video: Watch Tomas Hertl send the Czechs to the medal round

Sharks prospect and 2012 first rounder Tomas Hertl’s first goal of the 2013 World Junior Championships was an enormous one. With Team Czech Republic tied 3-3 in overtime of their round-robin game against Switzerland, Hertl took a pass from teammate Dmitrij Jaskin behind the Swiss net and tucked a quick wrap-around attempt under the pads of goaltender Melvin Nyffeler. Here’s a look at the goal, thirteen seconds into this video:

As a result of their 4-3 victory, Hertl and the Czechs finish the preliminary round with a record of 2-1-1, good enough to clinch a spot in the medal round. They’ll take on Sean Kuraly and Team USA in a quarterfinal matchup Wednesday at 1AM on the NHL Network.
