Worcester lacks bite in home shutout loss to Norfolk

In Roy Sommer’s 1600th professional game as a head coach, the Worcester Sharks were shutout 3-0 by the Norfolk Admirals (AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks) Saturday night at the DCU Center.

Rookie forward Eriah Hayes had a game high seven shots on goal while rookie goaltender Troy Grosenick made 26 saves in net for the Sharks, who fell to 1-3-1-0 in their season ending seven game home stand.

The Admirals took a 1-0 lead at 12:33 of the first period when off a turnover in the Sharks zone by rookie defenseman Mirco Mueller, Admirals forward Antoine Laganiere found a loose puck deep in the right slot and lifted the puck past a diving Grosenick for his 10th goal of the season.

In the second period, the Admirals out-shot the Sharks 8-3 and extended their lead to 2-0 at 14:56 when off a face-off win in the right circle of the Sharks zone, forward Andre Petersson snapped a shot from the top of the right slot past Grosenick for his 22nd goal of the season.

The Sharks showed more energy in the third period as they out-shot the Admirals 14-8 but Petersson ended any hopes of Sharks comeback when he ripped a one-timer from on top of the face-off circles past Grosenick at 17:11 for his second goal of the game and 23rd of the season.
