Worcester shut out again in 1-0 loss to Hershey

The Worcester Sharks saw their season high losing streak extend to five games (all in regulation) and their goalless drought reach 150:29 after a 1-0 loss to the Hershey Bears (AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals) Saturday Night at the Giant Center.

The Sharks, who have been shut out in back-to-back games and three times in their last four games, got 19 saves in net from goaltender Aaron Dell, who made his first start since being recalled from the Allen Americans of the ECHL on Nov. 11.

Sharks forward Daniil Tarasov had the Sharks’ best chance of scoring a goal and ending the scoring drought near the midway point of the first period but was robbed of a power play goal from point blank range by Bears goaltender Philipp Grubauer, who made a highlight reel save.

Bears forward Chris Brown scored the games lone goal at 16:38 of the period when he beat Dell with a one-timer snap shot from inside the right circle on a delayed penalty call for his third goal of the season.

Despite outshooting the Bears in each period, highlighted by a 19-6 advantage in the third period, the Sharks couldn’t get the puck past Grubauer, who finished with 38 saves for his second shutout of the season and sixth win.

NOTES… Shots on goal were 38-20 in favor of the Sharks… The Sharks went 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill… Dell is now 0-1-0 with a 1.23 goals-against-average and .931 save percentage… The Sharks power play is now 9-for-75 on the season… Sharks defenseman Matt Tennyson had a game high six shots on goal… The Sharks outshot Lehigh Valley and Hershey 74-40 in their two games this weekend but were outscored 5-0… This was the second of four meetings between the Sharks and Bears this season… The Sharks are 1-1-0 against the Bears, 3-4-0 on the road and 8-8-1 with 17 points overall… The Sharks wrap up their four game road trip on Nov. 26 when they travel to play the Portland Pirates at 7pm/et.
