[Open Thread] Game Sixty-Five: San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues

The Sharks conclude their long journey this evening with a visit to the home of the Blues, something St. Louis fans have become rather familiar with as of late. The team was showing promise earlier this year, but is mired in a nasty slump (no wins in the past five games, only four goals scored during those games, Paul Kariya and the immortal Brad Boyes scoreless in said games). Making thing quite probably worse for St. Louis, San Jose is not only playing excellent defense as of late, they’ve made a habit out of keeping the Blues off the scoresheet this year, allowing but one goal in two games.

While last night’s win had to be a major high, given the lack of breathing space between teams in the Western Conference it would behoove Los Tiburones, if indeed they are in the mood to be behooved, to focus on winning this game as opposed to thinking they can skate and/or stand around for sixty minutes and have victory fall into their lap because of who they are. Doesn’t work that way. The Sharks need to work tonight. Should they do so, this could end up being the perfect finish to an already pretty good road trip.

Okay, let’s drop the puck.
