Game Thirty-Five Recap: Anaheim Ducks 5, San Jose Sharks 2

Don’t let the final score fool you.  It wasn’t that close.

The Ducks embarrassed the Sharks in every way possible last night.  They smothered them defensively, they took quick and full advantage of defensive mistakes for the third and fourth goals of the game — an errant Christian Ehrhoff clearing pass snagged by Scott Niedermayer; Marc-Edouard Vlasic pinching without backup — and with the fourth goal coming on the first shift after San Jose had scored its first goal of the game were quite effective in not only taking the Sharks out of this game, but snuffing out the least little flicker of light.

Something is seriously wrong with this team.  How you can go out the day after a players meeting and almost to a man play like your mind’s on what you need to do in order to finish your Christmas shopping… I don’t get why this team doesn’t get it.  And I can’t believe standing pat roster-wise is somehow magically going to work as far as installing some heart in this squad.  There has to be a change.  This team has repeatedly proven when someone stands up to them they fall apart.  What it needs are one or more leaders whose response to being stood up to is standing tall and telling the other team to bring it; you’ll be getting it right back.  And those players, or at least enough of them to make a difference, are not at the present time on the roster.

Santa, for Christmas please bring us some players with guts.
