Barracuda Announce Training Camp Roster

The San Jose Barracuda announced their training camp roster just under two weeks before the Sharks‘ AHL affiliate begins its inaugural season in San Jose. 23 players (14 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 1 goalie) will be in camp for Monday morning’s practice at Sharks Ice, which will be one of six practices open to the public.

The roster is lacking familiar names and AHL experience, as only one player played over 40 games in the AHL last season. But, that should change quickly, as the Barracuda will likely add more bodies as the Sharks continue to make cuts. On Sunday, the Sharks reportedly waived six players with the purpose of adding them to the Barracuda, including goaltender Aaron Dell, and forwards Bryan Lerg, John McCarthy and Micheal Haley.

Two of the more intriguing names on the roster are 2015 7th-round pick Adam Helewka and the amazingly-named, undrafted free agent Nikita Jevaplovs. Helewka and Jevaplovs scored over 40 goals in their overage seasons in the WHL and QMJHL, respectively. Hockey’s Future rates Jevaplovs as the Sharks’ 13th best prospect, where Craig Fischer writes that “he has the potential to lead the Barracuda in goals this season.”
