Barracuda bite back with 3-1 win over Checkers

24-hours after having their four game point streak snapped in a 3-1 regulation loss to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes), the San Jose Barracuda turned the tables with a 3-1 win in the rematch Wednesday night at Bojangles' Coliseum.

The Barracuda, who finished their seven game road trip 3-2-2, got a two point game from forward Trevor Parkes, who scored what held up as the winning goal, as well as goals by forwards Greger Hanson and Nikolay Goldobin. Barracuda goaltender Troy Grosenick made 19-saves, 11 of which came in the second period, for his third win of the season.

Hansen put the Barracuda ahead 1-0 just 48-seconds into the game when he fired a rebound past Checkers goaltender Drew MacIntyre off a one-timer from the center point by defenseman Joakim Ryan that was deflected in front by Parkes. The goal, which was Hanson's second of the season, was made possible by a face-off win in the left circle by Barracuda forward Scott Timmins.

Parkes extended the lead to 2-0 at 12:32 with his second goal off a one-timer from point blank range that beat MacIntyre top shelf and was set up by a behind the net centering feed from Timmins.

In the second period, the Checkers out-shot the Barracuda 12-2 and got one past Grosenick at 6:20 when forward Patrick Brown beat Grosenick with a snap shot from the top of the right slot off an own zone turnover by Barracuda defenseman Mark Cundari for his third goal of the season.

Not wanting to lose both games in Charlotte, the Barracuda out-shot the Checkers 12-4 in the third period, as they did in the opening frame, and Goldobin scored an insurance goal at 8:52 with a deflection touch in the slot of Barracuda defenseman Karl Stollery's shot from the left point. Barracuda defenseman Julius Bergman had the secondary assist on the goal, which was Goldobin's second of the season.

Tempers flared with 1:42 left in the third period as Stollery and Checkers defenseman Danny Biega both received 10-minute misconducts after Stollery went after Biega, who knee checked Barracuda forward Jeremy Langlois in the neutral zone seconds prior. Thankfully for the Barracuda, Langlois was able to get up and skate around.
