Better Know a Penguin: Matt Cullen

Anchoring Pittsburgh’s fourth line is Matt Cullen, the definition of an NHL veteran. The Penguins are the eighth team that Cullen has played for since he was drafted by Anaheim back in 1996, and it seems likely that this could be Cullen’s final season in the league considering he turns 40 in November. This isn’t Cullen’s first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final; he was a member of the 2005-2006 Carolina Hurricanes team that defeated the Edmonton Oilers in seven games.

Despite his age, Cullen was completely healthy and suited up for all 82 regular season games for the Pens this season and contributed 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists). Paired up with Tom Kuhnhackl and Eric Fehr, Cullen has four goals and two assists through 18 postseason games. His contributions through both the regular and postseason have certainly helped take pressure off Pittsburgh’s top lines; Cullen is averaging a 14:02 minutes per game in the playoffs.
