Brent Burns wins Norris Trophy
The Sharks defenseman had a record-setting year at the blueline.
After an incredible 2016-17 season, Brent Burns is taking home some hardware to show off. Burns won the annual James Norris Trophy at tonight’s NHL Awards, awarded to the NHL’s top defenseman. He’s the first defenseman in Sharks franchise history to win the coveted award. Burns beat out fellow competitors Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman.
The Wookie’s season was nothing short of spectacular. Burns lead all defenseman with 76 points and 29 goals, both franchise records for a defenseman. Midway through his season, Burns was rewarded with an eight year, $64 million contract that will keep him in teal until he is 40 years old.
Burns officially establishes himself as one of the NHL’s elite defenseman with tonight’s win. It’s the first Norris Trophy of his career.
