Monday Chum Bucket: Wilson in “panic mode,” says super reliable source

  • Bruce “Malkin to the Kings” Garrioch has a rumor hit rate comparable to Eklund so it’s probably best to ignore most everything he says that isn’t Senators-related. Still, we’re suckers for false hope here at FTF and when someone suggests Doug Wilson is attempting to trade Douglas Murray, Ryane Clowe and Michal Handzus, it’s worth hoping he’s actually right this time. [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • Speaking of Clowe, his status is still unknown for tonight’s game in Anaheim after he re-injured his shoulder Saturday night against the Kings. Martin Havlat could be coming off injured reserve for this one too. [CSN Bay Area]
  • Todd McLellan yelled at everyone and then skated them hard during a practice yesterday in Anaheim. [Mercury News]
  • McLellan on what he expects from his players: “I think you should have a report card every period. You come in and say, ‘was I effective? Did I have an impact on the game? Did I play and do the things that I needed to do?’ Some periods the game isn’t around you, and you don’t get a chance to compete like you’d like to. But, within three periods, you better be answering yes more often than no.” [CSN Bay Area]
  • San Jose ranks 16th in this week’s power rankings, where they’re referred to as “the ultimate bubble team.” Sadly, that might be a fair characterization at this point. [ESPN]
  • And here’s a far more reliable source on Wilson’s impending wheeling and dealing: “Know this: Whatever the Sharks decide to do, they saw this day coming. They’ve been planning for a long time that they would need to refresh their roster around this time. That’s why they’ve got only $27 million committed in salaries past the 2013-14 season, which affords them the roster/payroll flexibility to tweak away over the next two years.” [LeBrun]
  • On the other hand, the Sharks are near the bottom of the barrel in this week’s PDO standings, indicating that there could be brighter times ahead but it’s tough to predict anything with just 20 games left. [NHL Numbers]
  • Fascinating read about why the New York Rangers have underachieved this season. [NHL.com]
  • As long as we’re constructing fantasy trades, Alexander Burmistrov appears to have fallen out of favor in Winnipeg. [Backhand Shelf]
