In the 106 games played by the San Jose Sharks this season we wrote 106 Quick Bites. In (almost) every Quick Bite we listed the Fear the Fin Three Stars of the game. Midway through the season I decided it’d be neat to give points to the recipients of the three stars and post a leaderboard at the end of the season.
That plan fell by the wayside until the end of the regular season when I finally buckled down and went through every post to count. Now I’ve gone back and added all the postseason three stars to the tally and finally we’ve got a real life leaderboard. Three points were awarded to the first star, two to the second and one to the third. Opposing players were not given points.
Without further ado, Fear the Fin’s three stars of the season are…
3. Joe Thornton
With 53 Fear the Fin Three Stars Points (FTFTSP), Jumbo beat Brent Burns by six points to more or less cruise into the top three. Thornton finished the season with 103 points in 106 games and was an integral part of the Sharks franchise-best postseason campaign.
2. Joe Pavelski
In his first year wearing the C, Pavelski picked up where he left off a season ago. The captain scored 101 points, including 23 in the postseason. His 60 FTFTSP points put him seven above Thornton but a solid 10 points off our first place finisher…
1. Martin Jones
Goalies probably get a bit of an unfair advantage in this department because when Jones gets a shutout he gets first star while Marc-Edouard Vlasic doens’t get so much as a mention. Still, especially given his play in the postseason, Jones fully deserved to take first place here. He earned 70 FTFTSP points to coast to a dominant victory.
Below you can see all 23 Sharks who received at least one point this season. Next season I’ll try to make this a monthly thing so we can follow along as it shifts.
