When Logan Couture launched his website last year, he promised that there would be information coming about the Logan Couture Charities for Brain Research. Today he made good on that promise, announcing a charity casino night to support concussion research and rehabilitation. The event will be held August 16th at Centennial Hall in London Ontario and all funds raised will go to Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic at Western University.

Concussion research is a cause that’s important to Couture. He’s taken his own fair share of head trauma. He suffered two concussions while playing for the Ottawa 67s during his juniors career. In last summer’s World Cup of Hockey, he took several shots to the head, and this past December, he was cross-checked to the back of the head by the Ottawa Senators’ Mike Hoffman.
It’s personal issue, and hosting it in London, near where he grew up, makes it all the more important to him. This is the first event of its kind to be held in London and according to AM980, several big names will make an appearance, including Sharks teammate Chris Tierney, Eric Lindros, Ron MacLean, Derek Drouin, and Damian Warner.
But it’s not just NHL players Couture is worried about:
“In the NHL, we get great treatment. But when you see young kids suffering brain injuries and they’re not diagnosed or come back to play too early and get hurt again, that’s something I believe can improve with more funding and research. We want to see what (the doctors learn) and it’s going to be better for the kids.”
He got the idea for the event during the World Cup of Hockey and an unlikely source gave him some extra inspiration.

At the press conference announcing the event, Couture showed off his new smile and talked about what it felt like to take a puck to the mouth.
His mouth is definitely looking a lot better than that photo he posted on instagram a couple of weeks ago.
