Logan Couture leaves Switzerland, citing "personal reasons"
Sharks center returns to native Canada after helping Genève-Servette dominate the Swiss National League.
As reported by Kevin Kurz on Twitter, Sharks center Logan Couture has returned to Canada from Genève-Servette HC, the top-tier Swiss National League club he was playing for during the lockout. According to Couture's agent (and Joe Thornton's brother) John Thornton, he's coming home for purely "personal reasons" that presumably have nothing to do with hockey.
GSHC is first in the Swiss National League A by a substantial margin, thanks in no small part to Couture's contributions. Couture scored seven goals and 23 points in 22 games, the leading scorer on Switzerland's best team. With offensively-talented forwards like Couture peaking at a seemingly earlier age every year, another unfortunate side effect of the lockout is that we might be deprived of watching some of these players at the apex of their career.
Couture's return continues the European exodus of lockout-displaced Sharks players after winger T.J. Galiardi left Germany for Calgary and Antti Niemi returned to the Bay Area from Finland earlier this week.
