Monday Sharks Links: McLellan likely to coach Team Canada at World Championships

  • Todd McLellan’s future with the San Jose Sharks remains unclear but ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports that McLellan is likely to be Team Canada general manager Jim Nill’s pick to coach the country’s entry at this year’s IIHF World Championship tournament in Prague. [Twitter]
  • Speaking of McLellan’s future, Doug Wilson hinted yesterday that a decision is likely to be announced on Wednesday when the team returns to Sharks Ice one last time to clear out their lockers and meet with the media. [CSN Bay Area]
  • McLellan himself sounded rather uncertain about staying in San Jose, saying he’ll need to conduct a “personal review” in the coming days with his family. [Mercury News]
  • And speaking of the World Championships, Logan Couture reportedly turned down an invite to join McLellan on Team Canada, as did Art Ross Trophy winner Jamie Benn and Columbus Blue Jackets star Ryan Johansen. [TSN]
  • Chris Tierney, Bryan Lerg, Karl Stollery and Taylor Fedun have unsurprisingly been returned to Worcester to help the Sharks’ AHL affiliate clinch a playoff berth, which they’re one point away from doing, and compete in the postseason. [San Jose Sharks]
  • The Maple Leafs cleaned house on the entire organization yesterday, firing GM Dave Nonis, head coach Peter Horachek and a half-dozen other employees. Bob McKenzie suggests former Sharks captain and current Kings assistant GM Rob Blake might interview for the vacant general manager position in Toronto, though he likely has no interest in leaving California. Smart dude. [TSN]
  • In case you missed it yesterday, here’s a full TV schedule for the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. [NHL.com]
