NHL Draft 2018: Every San Jose Sharks pick

The 2018 NHL Entry Draft begins tomorrow night in Dallas and the Sharks are in a much better spot thanks to the Mike Hoffman three-way trade that landed a pile of draft picks neatly into Doug Wilson’s lap. Here’s every pick that the Sharks have at their disposal tomorrow:

Round One

Original pick: 21 overall

Current pick: 21 overall

This year’s first round pick has so far gone untouched. It might even be beneficial for Doug Wilson to trade down a few spots if he can make up a second or third round pick in the process.

Round Two

Original pick: 52 overall

Current pick: None

On February 22nd 2016, the Sharks traded Raffi Torres, a 2017 second-round pick, and a 2018 second-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Nick Spaling and Roman Polak.

Round Three

Original pick: 83 overall

Current pick: None

On February 27th 2016, the Sharks traded Alex Stalock, Ben Smith, and a conditional 2018 third-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for James Reimer and Jeremy Morin. The conditional pick became a third-round pick when the Sharks reached the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

Round Four

Original pick: 114 overall

Current pick: 114 overall, 123 overall

The 114 overall pick was part of the condition to Toronto, should the Sharks not have made the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. They will retain that pick, as well as the Vegas Golden Knights’ 123 overall pick, that was traded to the Florida Panthers along with “Expansion draft considerations” in exchange for Reilly Smith on June 21 2017. The Sharks acquired the pick on Tuesday in a package of picks exchanged for forward Mike Hoffman and a 2018 seventh-round pick.

Round Five

Original pick: 145 overall

Current pick: 139 overall, 145 overall

The Sharks retain their original pick, in addition to Florida’s 139 overall pick, received in a package of picks exchanged for forward Mike Hoffman and a 2018 seventh-round pick.

Round Six

Original pick: 176 overall

Current pick: 176 overall, 182 overall

On February 25 2018, the Sharks received the Nashville Predators’ sixth-round pick in exchange for Brandon Bollig and goaltender Troy Grosenick. The Sharks will also retain their original 176 overall pick.

Round Seven

Original pick: 207 overall

Current pick: None

This pick was sent to the Florida Panthers along with Mike Hoffman in exchange for Florida’s 2018 fifth-round pick, Vegas’ fourth-round pick, and a 2019 second-round pick.

Wilson will have seven total picks, but with no picks in rounds two, three, and seven, don’t be surprised if there are draft day shenanigans to make up those picks.

Round one of the draft starts tomorrow night at 7:30 pm EST/4:30 pm PST at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
