Micheal Haley’s time with the Sharks has come to an end. The Panthers signed the 31-year-old to a two-year, one-way contract on Saturday. Haley will fill a gap in the roster left by Shawn Thornton, who retired at the end of the 2016-17 season. This signing comes after former Sharks assistant coach Bob Boughner was named head coach of the Panthers.
“Micheal will help support our core group with his leadership and toughness,” Boughner said in a statement. “I know what sort of impact he has in the room and on the ice. He’s the type of person and player that we need.”
This past season was Haley’s best offensively, as he scored 12 points in 58 games. In 78 NHL games over two seasons with the Sharks, he scored three goals, two of which came in the 16-17 season, in addition to ten assists. More known for his physical presence, he’s totaled 350 penalty minutes in 130 career NHL games.
