Captainless and possibly forced to rely on their backup goaltender, the Anaheim Ducks are struggling to stay in the Pacific Division race, while the Arizona Coyotes can’t figure out how to string some wins together. And the Vegas Golden Knights finally fall back to Earth.

Anaheim Ducks (6-6-3)

The injuries are piling up for the Ducks. Anaheim has lost four straight and may now be without their starting goaltender. John Gibson left in the middle of Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings after a puck knocked his mask off. He is day-to-day. Meanwhile, captain Ryan Getzlaf is out for at least two months after fracturing a cheekbone late last month.

The Ducks are hoping to get center Ryan Kesler and defenseman Cam Fowler back in a few weeks. Ducks GM Bob Murray is open to a trade and according to Anaheim Calling, Murray tried to trade for Vadim Shipachyov earlier this month, but couldn’t get the deal done.

The Ducks lost to the Sharks 2-1 in the shootout Saturday night and 5-3 to the Nashville Predators Friday.

The Ducks play tonight at 7:00 PST against the Vancouver Canucks.

Arizona Coyotes (2-13-2)

It’s turning out to be a very long season for the Coyotes. Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins was lucky number 13. The lone bright spot for Arizona is rookie Clayton Keller. He scored his 11th goal of the season in the Coyotes 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday. Keller also scored in the shootout during Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The Coyotes lost to the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 on Thursday.

Defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Niklas Hjalmarsson are both on IR.

The Coyotes play the St. Louis Blues tonight at 5:00 PST.

Calgary Flames (8-7-0)

Jaromir Jagr is back, but it still wasn’t enough to push the Flames past the Canucks on Tuesday. They lost 5-3. Until then, Calgary had won three in a row. The Flames beat the New Jersey Devils 5-4 on Sunday, thanks to an overtime goal by Matthew Tkachuk. Sean Monahan scored in overtime to help the Flames beat the Penguins 2-1 on Thursday.

Defenseman Travis Hamonic is on IR. Earlier this week, the Flames put veteran forward Tanner Glass on waivers. Glass cleared waivers and is now with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat.

The Flames tonight at 5:00 PST against the Detroit Red Wings.

Edmonton Oilers (5-8-1)

Could Oilers head coach Todd McLellan be fighting for his job? 14 games into the season and Edmonton is still struggling to find consistency. Connor McDavid scored in overtime on Tuesday thanks to a sweet pass from Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers beat the  New York Islanders 2-1.

But before that, they were shutout by the Red Wings 4-0 on Sunday. The Oilers also beat the Devils 6-3 on Friday.

Forward Kailer Yamamoto was sent back down to the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday. Forward Anton Slepyshev is day-to-day.

The Oilers play today at 4:00 PST against the Devils.

Los Angeles Kings (11-2-2)

The Kings continue to hold on to the top spot in the Pacific Division. Nick Shore was the latest hero for Los Angeles. He scored the overtime winner to beat the Ducks 4-3 on Tuesday. The Kings lost to the Preds 4-3 on Saturday, but beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 on Thursday.

The Kings play the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 7:30 PST.

Vancouver Canucks (8-5-2)

Henrik Sedin finally has his first goal of the season. He lit the lamp Tuesday during the Canucks 5-3 win over the Flames. After a poor showing last season, Vancouver is now third in the Pacific. The Canucks lost to Detroit 3-2 on Monday, but did beat the Penguins 4-2 on Saturday.

The Canucks host the Ducks at 7:00 PST.

Vegas Golden Knights (9-5-1)

Home, sweet home for the Golden Knights. They won just one game on their most recent six-game road trip. The Knights beat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 on Saturday, but lost to the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Tuesday and the Leafs 4-3 in the shootout on Monday. Vegas also lost to the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Thursday.

GM George McPhee has reportedly worked out a deal with disgruntled forward Shipachyov. According to Sportsnet’s Eric Engels, Shipachyov will retire and then return to the KHL. As a result, the Golden Knights will hold the rights to the Russian forward for the next five years. Shipachyov did not make the Golden Knights roster and refused to report to the AHL.

The Golden Knights host the Winnipeg Jets Friday at 7:30 PST.
