Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are going to have a rough started to their season. Six players will not be suiting up for the start of the season, including Ryan Getzlaf, who is out with a lower body injury. Ryan Kesler is recovering from hip surgery and will likely be out until December, at the soonest. Hampus Lindholm and Sami Vatanen are both out for the next month while recovering from labrum surgery. Ryan Miller is on IR with an upper body injury. Patrick Eaves also has an upper body injury that won’t keep him out of the line-up long term, but will still be a detriment to the start of their season.
They play tonight against the Coyotes, 10 pm at Honda Center.

Arizona Coyotes
This team is young, scrappy, and hungry. Wunderkind defenseman Jacob Chychrun had knee surgery back in August, but appears to be recovering ahead of schedule. The team named a leadership group of five players this week, who will all serve as alternate captains. Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson will be the primary alternate captains, with Derek Stepan, Brad Richardson, and Alex Goligoski rotating as the third alternate. Goligoski has been paired with former Dallas Stars teammate and former San Jose Shark, Jason Demers, through the preseason.
They play tonight against the Ducks, 10 pm at Honda Center.

Calgary Flames
The Flames signed Jaromir Jagr to what will likely be his final NHL season for $1 million, plus $1 million in bonuses. There are also rumors that they are trying to send out alternate captain, Troy Brouwer.
They debuted against the Oilers last night and failed to score in a 3-0 loss. Mike Smith surprisingly held up well in net for Calgary, stopping 42 of 44 shots. This is the eighth season opener in a row that they’ve lost.

Edmonton Oilers
The Connor McDavid show has returned. It was all McDavid and Talbot last night against the Flames, with McDavid netting a nifty hat trick and Cam Talbot stopping all 27 shots he faced. Rookie Kailer Yamamoto made his NHL debut, but didn’t have much of an impact on the game.

Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are starting the season with Alec Martinez and Marian Gaborik injured. They’ll be looking for a fresh start, with a brand new management crew. Jonathan Quick will make his return in net against the Flyers.
They open against the Flyers tonight, 10 pm at Staples Center.

Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks made a roster move this week, trading Andrey Pedan and a fourth round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Derrick Pouliot. The trade doesn’t actually look horrible for the Canucks, though ultimately, both defensemen are going to see AHL time this year.
The Canucks get a little extra rest, opening against Edmonton on Saturday, October 7th, 10 pm at Rogers Arena.

Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights made an unexpected move this week: they claimed goaltender Malcolm Subban after the Boston Bruins placed him on waivers. Subban hasn’t had much success at the NHL level yet and will be battling Calvin Pickard for the back up position.
The Golden Knights will be searching for their first franchise regular season win as they take on the Dallas Stars tomorrow night, 8:30 pm at American Airlines Center.
