San Jose Sharks forward Ozzy Wiesblatt will not wear the teal colors of the Barracuda for the next few weeks. The team announced it loaned the 22-year-old to the Milwaukee Admirals for the remainder of the season.
Wiesblatt came in at number 23 on Fear the Fin’s Top 25 Sharks Under 25 rankings in September. The young forward had fits and starts in his first season as a professional. He moved between the Barracuda and the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL in the 2022-23 season. It was hoped that he would take a step forward this season, but he suffered an injury in January. According to San Jose Hockey Now, Wiesblatt had meniscus surgery which kept him out of the lineup for about a month.
Wiesblatt has 11 points in 34 games with the Barracuda this season. The former first-round pick in 2020 continues to try and find his place in the league.
With the Admirals, he will have an opportunity to show what he can do in a “meaningful” season. The Admirals currently lead the Central Division and are likely to make the Calder Cup playoffs. If in the lineup, Wiesblatt will show what he can do in playoff competition at the AHL level. That’s important since he did not have that opportunity last season.
When this AHL season concludes, the Wiesblatt and his contract will be returned to the San Jose Sharks’ organization.
