For the first time since March 14, The Sharks have won two straight games. After being  first in the Pacific Division for most of the season, San Jose dropped all the way to third. Tonight, they boosted their seeding chances with a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks, even with two notable absences, Joe Thornton and Logan Couture.

It didn’t take long for the Sharks to open the floodgates. San Jose scored 2 goals in the first 30 seconds of the game— the fastest two goals to start a game in franchise history. First, Kevin Labanc’s spin-o-rama 18 seconds in found the back of the net. Then, Joel Ward’s bullet slap shot beat Bachman to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.

The Sharks cooled down towards the end of the period and didn’t record any shots in the final few minutes.

The momentum began to shrink away in the second period. Vancouver dominated the shot chart and killed off both of their penalties. The lead was still 2-0, but the Sharks were nowhere near as powerful as they were in the 1st.

Vancouver finally got on the board early in the third period. Newcomer Brock Boeser found Christopher Tanev open at the point, who then wristed it right past Martin Jones. Suddenly San Jose only had a 1 goal lead.

The Sharks got their insurance goal back quickly after. Brent Burns’ shot from the blue line caught the stick of Chris Tierney in front and beat Bachman. With the crowd back in it, the Sharks were back in the driver’s seat.

The Sharks played well enough down the stretch to hang on and beat Vancouver by a final of 3-1.
