Rangers at Sharks (game 48): Lines, game thread and how to watch

The San Jose Sharks are back home tonight after a riveting shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings less than 24 hours ago. Backstopped by Kaapo Kahkonen, the Sharks managed to pull off the team’s second win in a row. A win tonight over the New York Rangers and the Sharks will have its first win streak of the season.

The Rangers arrived in San Jose earlier this week and were likely snug in their beds when the Sharks’ flight landed at SJC and the players drove home. New York doesn’t lose a lot of games, so this will be a tough test for the Sharks. While the Rangers are possibly in their worst slump of the season (New York is 4-5-1 in its last ten games), the Rangers are still at the top of the Metropolitan Division.

The last time these two teams met, the Rangers won 6-5. Jonathan Quick was the winning goaltender for the Rangers in that game.

While the Sharks have scored in bunches in the last few games, New York has been doing it all season. The Rangers’ leading scorer, Artemi Panarin, has 62 points. For comparison, Tomas Hertl is the Sharks’ leading scorer and he has just 33 points this season. Four Rangers players have more points than Hertl. Panarin also leads the Rangers with 28 goals. Hertl and Fabian Zetterlund are tied for the Sharks’ team lead with 14 goals apiece.

The big change tonight will be on defense. Mario Ferarro is injured, so Calen Addison will return to the lineup. Addison has not played since Jan. 13, around the time that players like Marc-Edouard Vlasic forced their way back into the lineup.
