UPDATE (1:12 PM PST): Both teams have announced the trade. Sharks general manager Doug Wilson gave the following statement:
“We want to thank Mirco for his years of service to the San Jose Sharks and the San Jose Barracuda organizations,” said Wilson. “This will be an excellent opportunity for Mirco to continue his development and with our organization’s depth on the blueline, an opportunity for us to acquire assets for the future. We wish him the best.”

According to several reports, the San Jose Sharks have traded defenseman Mirco Mueller and a 5th round draft pick to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a 2nd round and 4th round pick in next week’s draft.
In 64 NHL career games, Mueller recorded 2 goals and 4 assists. He played in just 4 games for the Sharks last season. He has spent the majority of his playing time with the San Jose Barracuda the past two seasons.
Mueller is the latest Shark to be traded after not turning out to be what the team would’ve hoped. Earlier this year, the Sharks traded Nikolay Goldobin to the Canucks under similar circumstances. Both the 2013 and 2014 first round draft picks are now out the door for San Jose.
The Sharks do acquire some reasonable picks in the upcoming draft (2nd and 4th), but give up another prospect too early in the development process.
The first round of the draft begins on June 23.
