According to the AHL transactions page, Rourke Chartier has been added to the San Jose Barracuda. In what appears to be a corresponding move, the ‘Cuda sent winger Bryan Moore to the Allen Americans of the ECHL on Monday this week. The team has yet to issue a formal announcement. Chartier opened the year on the Sharks’ injured reserve with a concussion.
During the 2016-17 season, Chartier centered the team’s third line where he spent a bit of time alongside Buddy Robinson and Timo Meier. Chartier scored 17 goals and added 18 assists — good for 35 points — in 67 games. During the Calder Cup playoffs, Chartier played in just seven games, during which he added six assists.
A fifth-round draft pick in 2014, Chartier was signed by the Barracuda following his 19/20-year-old junior season. He appeared in one playoff game for the Sharks’ AHL affiliate that year. He also notched two assists in five games for Team Canada during the Under-20 World Junior tournament during the same season.
It’s unfortunate this year has been slowed by injury, as Chartier was the fifth-leading point-getter among Barracuda forwards last season and was tied for fourth among the team’s goal scorers. With the Barracuda struggling to find their footing this season, they likely miss his offense in the lineup. Here is hoping this transaction means he’s closer to playing and, hopefully, progressing in his career.
