Barracuda Bites: Bibeau extended, Williams called up, Brodeur released

There has been some commotion around the crease within the San Jose Sharks’ farm system.

Antoine Bibeau has been signed to a two-year contract extension with the San Jose Barracuda. Monetary details for this contract are not presently available. Bibeau was briefly recalled to the Sharks earlier this season while Martin Jones was dealing with an injury, and has posted spectacular numbers with the Barracuda, boasting a .928 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average over 33 appearances with the club. He beat out last year’s starting goaltender, Troy Grosenick, to be the main man in net for the ‘Cuda.

Jeremy Brodeur has been released from his professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the San Jose Barracuda. Brodeur did not appear in any games with the Barracuda, instead usually dressing to serve as Antoine Bibeau’s backup in the time since his PTO was signed in late February.

In a corresponding move, Stephon Williams of the ECHL Allen Americans has been called up to the Barracuda. Williams was drafted 106th overall by the New York Islanders during the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently on a one-year contract with the Barracuda and has appeared in 34 contests with Allen with a .908 save percentage and a 3.14 goals against average.

Williams will wear number 29, and the Barracuda currently have only two total rostered goaltenders. Williams will be the fifth netminder to dress for the Barracuda this season. Parker Gahagen was released from his amateur tryout agreement in mid-February to continue with his Army agreements, and Troy Grosenick was traded at the trade deadline alongside Brandon Bolling to Nashville Predators organization.
