The Sharks have made the first cuts of training camp ahead of tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. This morning, General Manager Mike Grier announced that the following players have been returned to their junior clubs:

Goaltender Mason Beaupit – Wenatchee Wild, WHL
Defenseman Luca Cagnoni – Portland Winterhawks, WHL
Defenseman Jake Furlong – Halifax Mooseheads QMJHL

The return of Beaupit, Cagnoni and Furlong to their respective junior clubs is not a surprise. All three are 20 years of age or younger, with Beaupit achieving 20 years of age just last week.

Additionally, the Sharks have assigned the following players to the San Jose Barracuda:

Defenseman Ethan Frisch
Defenseman Roman Kinal
Forward Connor MacEachern
Forward Bradley Marek
Forward Anthony Vincent
Goaltender Beck Warm

With the backlog of high-end defensive prospects on the training camp roster like Shakir Mukhamadullin, Nikita Okhotiuk, Valtteri Pulli and Leon Gawanke, it’s no surprise that Frisch and Kinal were sent down. Same goes for MacEachern, Marek and Vincent in terms of forwards.

Warm put in a good showing at training camp but certainly isn’t the favorite to be the first callup if one of the two Sharks’ starting netminders is sent down. It’s yet to be seen where he will fall into the Barracuda depth chart in goal with Eetu Makiniemi, Georgi Romanov and Magnus Chrona still at Sharks camp.

Forward Felix Gagnon, who joined the team on an amateur tryout was also released.

There are now 54 players at training camp (33 forwards, 16 defensemen and 5 goalies).
