Sharks fire Head Coach Peter DeBoer, coaching staff

The San Jose Sharks have reportedly fired Head Coach Peter DeBoer this evening, following a four-game road trip that saw the team go 0-3-0-1. The Sharks currently sit sixth in the Pacific Division with a 15-16-2 record and are on a five-game losing streak. Per Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, DeBoer had an additional year remaining on his contract, with a $3 million salary.

Amid a rash of firings that have been due to abuse, racism, and otherwise unprofessional behavior this season, DeBoer’s exit in San Jose has been emphasized as being a purely performance-driven decision by both Elliotte Friedman and LeBrun.

In addition to DeBoer, General Manager Doug Wilson has released assistant coaches Steve Spott, Dave Barr and Johan Hedberg. Bob Boughner is expected to remain as the team’s interim head coach, though no official release has been issued by the organization at this time.
