Martin Jones named NHL’s Third Star of the Week
Jones went 3-0 last week with a .935 save percentage.
San Jose Sharks starting goaltender Martin Jones has been named the NHL’s Third Star of the week ending December 1, the NHL announced Monday.
Jones was undefeated in the three games he played and posted a 1.98 goals against average. He twice made 33 saves in wins against the Los Angeles Kings, and added 21 in the Sharks’ 4-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on November 30.
In November, Jones went 10-2-0; his overall season record is 12-8-1. His goals against average is 3.03 and his save percentage is below .900.
In his NHL career, Jones has a .910 save percentage and a 2.51 goals against average. Last season, he finished with an .896 save percentage from 62 games, his first sub-.900 number since joining the NHL with the Kings in 2013.
The NHL’s First Star of the Week is center Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche, who tallied the league’s best points total (3-6-9) over three games this week. Goaltender David Rittitch of the Calgary Flames rounds out the top three after posting a 2-0-1 record, stopping a total of 95 out of 101 shots for a .941 save percentage.
