After previously filing for arbitration last Sunday, goaltender Adin Hill and the San Jose Sharks avoided an arbitration hearing by agreeing to a two-year contract. Per TSN’s Elliotte Friedman, the contract comes in at a $2.175 million average annual value. Hill becomes the third NHL player who filed for arbitration to reach an agreement with their club before an arbitration ruling, joining Zach Sanford of the St. Louis Blues and Victor Mete of the Ottawa Senators.
“We’re pleased to get Adin under contract solidifying our goaltending position for the coming season,” said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson in a press release.
Hill appeared in 19 games last season with the Arizona Coyotes and posted a save percentage (SV%) of .914 and a goals against average (GAA) of 2.74. In his entire NHL career so far, the 25-year-old goaltender has appeared in 49 games, all with the Coyotes, with a record of 19-21-4, a SV% of .909 and a GAA of 2.74. Hill was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, drafted in the third round with the 76th overall pick.
San Jose acquired the netminder in a trade that sent goaltender Josef Korenar and the team’s second round pick in 2022 to the Coyotes, Hill represents a changing of the guard in the Sharks’ crease after Wilson and company bought-out the final three years of Martin Jones’ contract. He’ll battle with new signing and old friend of the Sharks, James Reimer, for the starting role to begin the 2021-22 season.
