Sharks vs Leafs preview: Patrick Marleau makes his return to San Jose

Tonight will be a match up full of emotion, as long time Sharks player, Patrick Marleau, is making his return to San Jose. Patrick Marleau was selected with the second overall pick in the 1997 NHL draft 20 years ago by the San Jose Sharks. Tonight he will be playing his first game at the SAP Center in a different jersey. The third place Atlantic Division Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the struggling sixth place Pacific Division San Jose Sharks is set to be a good game.

The Sharks are coming off a much needed win, after defeating the Sabres 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, whereas the Leafs are currently on a two-game losing streak after losing to both the Philadelphia Flyers and the Carolina Hurricanes.

This will be the Sharks biggest test of the year so far, as emotions will be through the roof and these will be huge points against a struggling, but stacked, Toronto Maple Leafs team.

The Leafs will come out flying tonight with a fully healthy roster including Patrick Marleau, Auston Matthews, and William Nylander leading the charge. The Sharks are hoping Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc can keep up their explosive starts to the season.

The hot-and-cold Frederik Andersen will mind the net for the Leafs and Martin Jones will try to stop the mighty Leafs offense for the Sharks.

The Sharks head into tonight’s game on a six-game win streak against the Leafs. In fact, the last time the Sharks lost to the Leafs, Antti Niemi was their goalie and Mr. Shark himself, Patrick Marleau, led the team in points.

The Sharks look to open up their second home stand with a win and will look to keep Patrick Marleau off the scoresheet for the first time in San Jose.
