Head-to-head scoring chances

201314g42_h2h

  • To say the Marleau/Couture/Nieto line was heavily involved in the offense would be an understatement. All three were on the ice together for five of the Sharks‘ nine even-strength scoring chances in this game while Nieto and Marleau were also on the ice for a sixth chance, Patty’s goal that drew San Jose to within two.
  • Conversely, the Thornton line didn’t quite generate the amount of offense at evens that has become customary for them since being put together. While they controlled possession, generating just two even-strength chances, both in the first period, isn’t good enough by that line when San Jose has zero depth past the top six.
  • In fairness, Colorado did an impressive job in general during the third period at keeping the Sharks to the outside, allowing just one chance at evens (of course, it went in) despite yielding a bevy of zone time.
