Sharks acquire James Reimer from Maple Leafs

The Sharks have found their new backup goaltender. Five days after acquiring Roman Polak and Nick Spaling from Toronto, Doug Wilson sent Alex Stalock, Ben Smith, and a conditional fourth round draft pick in 2018 to the Maple Leafs for goaltender James Reimer and forward Jeremy Morin.

In 32 games (29 starts) for the Maple Leafs this season, Reimer compiled an 11–12 record with a .918 SV% and 2.49 GAA. He’s a great upgrade over Stalock and gives the Sharks a strong combo in net with Martin Jones. He’s a little over two weeks from his 28th birthday and an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Morin is 24 and has scored 10 goals and 12 assists in 82 NHL games for Chicago and Columbus.

More to come.

UPDATE: Aaron Dell is joining the Sharks until Reimer arrives. Reimer will wear #34 like he did in Toronto.

The fourth round pick in 2018 will become a third round pick if the Sharks reach the cup final.
