Sharks confirm Tomas Hertl extension, forward won’t need surgery

The Sharks confirmed the Tomas Hertl extension this morning and also gave an update on the forward’s health. Doug Wilson previously said it was Hertl’s knee that kept him out of the last four games of the Stanley Cup Final but wasn’t sure if the forward would need surgery.

Thankfully we can cross that concern off the list. According to Friend of the Blog Kevin Kurz, Hertl will not need surgery.

Hertl may miss the World Cup of Hockey as he wants to be 100 percent for the NHL season. That’s something I think we can all agree on. In a press release, Wilson had this to say about Hertl.

“We’re excited to keep Tomas in the fold and are appreciative of all of his work to help get this deal done,” said Wilson. “He is an extremely important piece of our team, which was magnified with his absence during much of the Stanley Cup Final. He has shown steady improvement each season and deserves a lot of credit for his commitment into what we are building here. We’re looking forward to having him back to start the 2016-17 season.”
