Sharks face new division foe in Calgary Flames

The Sharks will get a crack at one of their new division rivals tonight as they take on the Calgary Flames for the first time this season. San Jose recently had their win-streak snapped in Dallas and will look to get a new one going against a not-great Flames team.

After the emotional toll of the St. Louis game, the Sharks didn’t play their best game on Thursday and that was exacerbated by the Stars pesky play. The Flames are 20th in the league in 5v5 score close Corsi-for, so this is an opponent the Sharks should dominate. Since the Ducks appear to actually be competent this year (isn’t that the worst) and the Kings figure to be competitive, San Jose will want to pick up as many points as they can from the likes of Calgary and Edmonton.

No Dan Boyle will continue to negatively impact the Sharks, but having Brad Stuart back for the second time following his suspension should ease that burden. According to the Flames, Boyle is not hot. Fellow FTF writer mymclife offers this as a counterpoint.

This is the late game on Hockey Night In Canada, so if you live in Canada… well, I’m genuinely sorry — but you can watch the Sharks on national TV! So there’s that!

Logan Couture had a godawful game against the Stars. Keep an eye on him for a rebound tonight.

It’s still weird that Jerome Iginla isn’t on this team anymore. I was four the first time he suited up for the Flames. Jeez, the rest of you are old.
