Sharks send down O’Regan

The San Jose Sharks sent center Danny O’Regan down to the San Jose Barracuda, according to Sharks GM Doug Wilson.

O’Regan made his NHL debut last night in San Jose’s 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils. The rookie played 5:35, and posted a 12.5 CF% at even strength, according to Hockeystats.ca.

The transaction likely means that forward Melker Karlsson is ready to return from his ankle injury. If the Sharks’ early season line combinations are any indication, Tommy Wingels is likely to center the fourth line as Tomas Hertl is out indefinitely following minor knee surgery today.

If Karlsson is not healthy, this could be a move designed to maximize San Jose’s salary cap space at the trade deadline. In the past, Wilson has been known to send players back and forth between the the minors and the big club. With San Jose’s minor league affiliate located in the same city, such a move is much easier.
