Sharks sign Swedish defenseman Tim Heed

Who says that the playoffs is time for a front office to take a vacation. Doug Wilson and Co. are hard at work and this signing is evidence of that.

Tim Heed, originally an Anaheim Ducks draft pick has been quite the offensive dynamo over in Sweden playing for Skelleftea AIK (apparently a real team name). In 102 games, in just over two seasons, he scored 60 points. Those are great marks for a young player and looks to be ready to make the next step.

The deal signed was a one year two-way contract worth 775k dollars.

Doug Wilson had this to say in a Sharks press release:

“Tim brings a very offensive-minded approach to the blueline,” said Wilson. “He is a smooth skater with a high hockey IQ and has become an effective puck mover from the backend. He’s coming to us from Skelleftea, which has had a strong record of developing NHL-caliber players, including Melker Karlsson, who was a teammate of Tim’s.”

It is tough to say where Heed fits in next year as he looks to have a high upside and some scoring ability. If past acquisitions are any indication, this should work out quite well as the Sharks front office has a keen eye for diamonds in the rough.
